What will the Democrats do now to win?

As a futurist I’ve been looking into this question: what does the Trump victory mean for American and global politics? Today, I’d like to explore one aspect of that topic: what will the United States Democrats do now?

One month after their catastrophic election defeat gives us some perspective. We now have a battery of exit polls, some time for party members to reflect, and, of course, tons of conversation online and off-.

In response, I’ll share what I hope the Democrats do in order to regain power, then list what courses of action I think they’re more likely to follow.

Caveats: these strategies are about winning elections, not necessarily what I think is best for humanity and the world. Morever, some of this will irk some of you. Nerves are frayed.

So what do I think the Dems should do, if they want to win again?

1) Actually commit to Latino Americans. This is something the Democrats have been badly weak on since the 1980s, partly because of memories of 1960s activism and partly by folding multiple, very different populations together under the “people of color” or “nonwhite” rubric. In contrast, Republicans been pursuing Latinos with great success, even with racist attitudes. Remember than Latinos are the largest nonwhite population and are still growing. The Democrats…
